National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

In addition to being the 8th annual Orange Shirt Day, Thursday, September 30, 2021 will be the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Together we recognize the legacy of Canada’s residential school system and continue to learn the many truths of these institutions. On Thursday, wear orange to to honour First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children and communities impacted by this system.

Terry Fox Run 2021

Withrow will be taking part in this year’s Terry Fox School Run to celebrate the 41st Anniversary of Terry’s Marathon of Hope.

Our event will take place the week of September 28th-October 1st.  To safely participate during COVID, Withrow students will run/walk for Terry Fox during their Health and Phys. Ed. class.  Each student will count how many laps of the schoolyard they run/walk during class.  We will total up the number of laps run by each class and see how far across Canada we can run in a week.

Terry ran 5373km.  How far can Withrow run?  Last year, we virtually ran all the way to Trois Rivieres, Quebec (2698km).

Let’s show our support this year by donating online to:

Ask Us What We’re Learning!

Today we talked about where we see math in the real world. We also watched two short videos that taught us that there is no such thing as a “math person” and that anyone can learn complicated math with hard work!

Ask your students what we observed from these math visuals.

Developing Independence

Grades 3 and 4 are important years for developing independence. I’ve noticed that some students need practice with the following skills.

  • Tying their shoes
  • Opening their water bottles (to use the refilling station)
  • Opening their recess and lunch snack containers and wrappers

Welcome to Grade 3!

 Dear Students and Parents,

I would like to welcome everyone to the 2021-2022 school year. A new school year always presents opportunities for exciting beginnings – new teachers, new classmates, and new expectations. I cannot think of a more exciting time of year.

My name is Ms. Noiles and I am one of the grade 3/4 teachers at Withrow Avenue Public School. This year we will be working together in room 230. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you over the coming days and weeks.

I hope this site helps you to stay up-to-date on our classroom activities. This main blog page will replace traditional print classroom newsletters. Any important classroom information will be posted here. Please bookmark this page and check regularly for updates.

Sincerely,

Ms. Noiles
